  • MCC Board Authorizes Termination of the Mali Compact

    Washington — On May 4, 2012, the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s (MCC) Board of Directors concurred with the recommendation of MCC Chief Executive Officer Daniel W. Yohannes to terminate the Mali Compact following the undemocratic change of government in the country.

  • MCC statement regarding the on-going situation in Mali:

    The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) partners with nations that are committed to good governance, economic freedom and investing in their citizens. From 2006 to 2012, MCC and the elected Government of Mali worked in close partnership to develop and implement a $460 million compact investment to reduce poverty through economic growth in Mali. The compact had been scheduled to conclude on September 17, 2012.

  • Statement from the Millennium Challenge Corporation on halting operations in Mali

    The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) joins the whole of the U.S. Government in calling for restoration of constitutional rule in Mali, including full civilian authority. On March 22, in response to the unconstitutional seizure of power by elements of the Mali military, MCC announced it was halting operations in Mali.

  • MCC Board Approves Zambia Compact, Suspends Compact with Malawi

    During its quarterly meeting the Board approved a new compact with Zambia, authorized Threshold Program assistance for Niger, and voted to suspend the Malawi Compact due to a pattern of actions by the Government of Malawi that is inconsistent with MCC criteria.

  • Statement from MCC CEO Daniel W. Yohannes on the situation in Mali

    The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) condemns the violence and military seizure of power in Mali. Mali is an MCC partner country and is scheduled to complete its compact in September 2012. MCC maintains compact partnerships only with countries that demonstrate a clear commitment to good governance, economic freedom and investing in their citizens. The unconstitutional actions taken by elements of the armed forces of Mali are in direct conflict with MCC’s commitment to democratic governance and the rule of law.
